Along the north coast’s rugged coastline are many fantastic beaches, at Portrush, Portstewart, Downhill and Castelrock.
Portrush’s West Strand Beach or White Rocks, offers a wide variety of activities including water-sports or just a leisurely swim. In saying that be prepared for water temperatures that make polar bears shiver.
Porstewart Strand is also a family favourite with more that two miles of sand and you can drive along it, which makes access that much easier.
Another spectacular beach is Benone Beach, one end of the beach is in Benone and the other end is at Downhill. It is a seven-mile stretch of sand and is also a Blue Flag beach backed by sand dunes. There are water-sports, fishing for entertainment and there’s a golf club and playground nearby. Beyond the dunes waterfalls can be seen falling from the cliffs.
At the eastern end is the is the stunning Mussenden Temple perched on top of the cliff and below are the Belfast to L’Derry train tracks. Undoubtedly this beach is one of the most scenic in Ireland.
